Weightbearer (The Paris Works)
mixed media
2022

The Weightbearer body of work was created entirely over the course of a six-month residency at Cité internationale des arts in Paris, France, awarded by the City of Klagenfurt and the Province of Carinthia. Weightbearer includes a full-length album of songs released under the artist’s moniker Squalloscope, a series of works on paper, large-format works on canvas, prose, sketchbooks, video, photographic manipulated self-portraits, and embroidery. It mirrors the tender, constant unease felt during the artist’s time in Paris, shaped by pandemic restrictions, global and personal crises. There is no attempt to separate the personal from the artistic, the process from the product, or disciplines from each other. This is a full immersion into the city in a state of crisis. The artist becomes the studio, the house, the district.

Normalcy is a most flexible creature, limbs like rubber, heart like dough.
